And oddly, has an interest in bee keeping. And my husband is his biggest fan or close to it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-26696629738943728992010-04-07T18:58:21.380-05:002010-04-07T18:58:21.380-05:00Ok, so here's the scoop on the book. I imagine that bringing in some gods and not elaborating more on them was setting up for the following book. Also, Shadow himself represents Jesus. Think about it. God's only son = Odin's only son.

Truthfully, I thought about this book quite a bit for days after I was done reading it. I really thought about the deeper comparisons of tradition and the modern "anything goes" view of today. It made me stop and think about the Great Melting Pot and traditions that are lost or being lost to time and disinterested generations. Think of it like the Alaskan Natives that have lost so much of their culture. They've been "domesticated" for lack of a better term for how long now? And yet, their cultural identity and stories are disappearing. Worse, it's disappearing in about 3 generations time span. Adults of today don't remember the legends and stories of their grandparents' time. How scary is that? And what happens when their culture is truly gone? That is what this book explores, but in a more mythical light.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-54112317856306336882010-04-03T09:57:17.014-05:002010-04-03T09:57:17.014-05:00Good review. I am not a fan of that author despite his awards so I don't think I'll be reading any of books.crochet ladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04720374771067791687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-69563179091722304112010-04-03T09:12:56.911-05:002010-04-03T09:12:56.911-05:00sorry - that was me posting comments and then dele...sorry - that was me posting comments and then deleting. My comment was: Sounds like a book I have absolutely no interest in reading.

Then my computer got way slower than me pushing buttons and I ended up posting twice and then deleting twice.PAK ARThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11985770093478778520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-21135380988608521322010-04-03T09:10:44.293-05:002010-04-03T09:10:44.293-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.PAK ARThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11985770093478778520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-43648280608071161972010-04-03T09:10:44.294-05:002010-04-03T09:10:44.294-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.PAK ARThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11985770093478778520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362469945181286987.post-24207051913234497742010-04-03T08:53:00.190-05:002010-04-03T08:53:00.190-05:00I haven't read any of his books. The book was based on a young boy that was raised & cared for by ghosts in a graveyard!

I liked your book review on American Gods.tainterturtleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10307790480251741661noreply@blogger.com
