Give up? Never!

This is not the plant that I love. Yes, I know that we over use that word, but I love a plant! I love it like a Mom loves her most ugly, loser child! Somebody needs to love it.I used to have a lot of house plants but when I moved here to Wisconsin I had to leave some behind. I hope that they went to a good place but I think my Dad may have tossed them outside to freeze. I try not to think about that! I brought with me my 5 plants that I could not leave behind. I smuggled them through Canada and every night I brought them into the motels that we stayed at so that they would not freeze at night. (We left Alaska mid April so still very cold up north) and smuggled them back into the USA. All my plants are doing good but for one.

Up in Alaska I would go to the Municipal green house to look at plants and I saw the most beautiful plant ever! It's name is Araliacae Trevesia Palmata or also called a Vietnamese Snow Flake. I myself, was unable to get a cutting of it so a friend of a friend went there and appropriated a baby off the mother plant for me. It did poorly, then it rebounded and grew! I was so,so happy. Then I went on vacation and forgot to ask my sister to water it. It took a turn for the worse and I have hoped ever since then that it would rebound.

This is what it still looks like! Don't laugh! It's very painful for me. I can't give up yet. It might, just might come back.

  1. It must have been Alicia that didn't water it because I don't ever remember receiving any instructions. I'm sure it's just in a dormant stage, yeah, that's it.

By the way, nice use of a big word...appropriated. I'm proud of you.

  2. Plants are important at our house. If one of our plants isn't doing well, we feel really bad. I think that's great that you smuggled some plants into the lower 48!!!

  3. ummmm...yeah..I don't remember ever receiving any instructions about plants or even house sitting or anything like that. It wasn't me that killed you're beloved plant!...although I do have a habit of bringing all my (2 of them)plants to the brink of death and then revivng them with loads of water.

  4. actually alicia - she pointed out that SHE forgot to ask her sister to water it. So I guess it could have been either of us. It's really her fault she let her beloved plant die. She probably doesn't really love it or she wouldn't have subconciously let it die. She must have felt guilty for the "appropriation" of a plant from the municipal greenhouse. that's really just a fancy word for stealing.

  5. I went to AZ to vist Dad and Mom and Alicia had to check the mail. I forgot to ask her to go inside and water plants. My other plants could go the 10 days without water but I forgot this one was in a tender stage and needed to be babied. I doubt that Alicia would have watered it anyway even if I had asked! She can go for months and I mean months befor she will water a plant!

  6. I, feel your pain. when I left my job I left behind almost 50 plants. I miss my pinapple. But he was planted in a planter box and about three feet tall and there was no way I could smuggle him in that little plane out of there and I had no home to go to at the time so.... My only way to deal with the loss is to not think about it. I have to say your photo of your favorite is beautiful. If I ever see one of those I will appropiate it for you after I get one for myself. I have been getting into terreriums. They are so much more portable. Just put them on the floorboard of the truck and they make it to your destination. Out of fifty or more plants I ended up with 4. When I moved into the home I have now the lady before me left behind two that where in the stages that your beloved is now. If I had a camera I show you how good they are doing now. With ten inches of snow on the ground and 20 below constantly, green in the house is real good for your sanity....
