Staying true to my roots.

Living here in Wisconsin and knowing that I don't have any salmon I get to craving it. Back home in Alaska I ate it when ever somebody would give me a fillet but I never really craved it. It must be knowing that I don't have it handy that makes me think about it. I have been eating canned red salmon. ( I will never ever eat canned pinks! yuck! ) I think that I have had more canned salmon then I have had tuna fish here in Wisconsin.


Dinner tonight was, brown rice with dill, garlic and parsley mixed with canned salmon and of course I had to add a dollop of mayo and then a drizzle of Litehouse brand toasted Sesame Ginger dressing and marinade. I think that, just maybe, the rice is just a way for me to eat the sesame/ginger dressing. It's really tasty.


I will make a green salad and add some chicken and this dressing and have a Asian style salad.

I am now stuffed. It was to much so I shared with Abby. She likes it too.
OK. I will tell the truth. I'm stuffed now cause I ate 5 cookies with a big glass of milk! Maybe, just maybe I drink milk so I can have cookies with it.

  1. I love salmon, and when we went out to Oregon to visit family we had fresh salmon. So much better than the salmon from around here!

    I still can't eat canned salmon. I don't like picking out all the bones and skin and yuck that come in the cans. I have no problems filleting a fish I catch, but just can't do the cans. I'm weird.

    Your dinner sounds yummy other than the canned salmon :)

  2. Over here on the good side of the state, we get our salmon right from Lake Michigan. Granted, it's all farm raised and transplanted, but it's as good as I've ever had.

    I have two friends at work that live on the lakeshore. They give salmon away by the cooler-full. My boss brings smoked salmon to work at least once a month.

    I scrape the skin off and give that too the dog. But that really dosn't bother me.

  5. Ever since I worked in a fish processing plant and saw what was sent to the canners, I have a hard time with canned salmon. But if I have to eat it, I'll eat the reds or silvers. Not pinks, just like you. They are mushy.

    PS We are having silver salmon for dinner. It's from July so hope it is not freezer burn tasting.

  6. Eh, my dad and sister eat the bones in canned salmon. I certainly don't hate them for it! :) But they are nice and when they make something with canned salmon, they pick bones out just for me. I'm spoiled. That's what sisters are for, right?!

  7. We buy salmon filets through Sam's Club, but haven't had it in a long time. My favorite way to cook salmon is grilled with teriaki grilling sauce.

    Your din din tonight sounded delicious. Sounds like Abby gets fed well.

  8. All the canned salmon I've tried has the bones and I just can't get past picking all those out.

    We get salmon from the meat store in Men. sometimes. I think they have some from Alaska that's not farmed.

  9. Just kidding, A.K. (intentional initials, by chance?) Western WI is beautiful. If you ever get the chance to see the east coast (of WI), it really is nice. I recommend starting on the southern end of Hwy 42 and following the lakeshore to the north. We may not have mountains and grizzly bears like your native state, but we have BMW's full of FIBS.

  12. Some of the Seafood companies are now canning salmon with no bones or skin. I tourned the plant last year to see the new product. Personally I like the bones and skin but I see the market for with out also. Maybe the boneless/skinless hasn't reached WI.
