Book Club

Well, I joined a book club. I never have belonged to book club ( Or any other club) so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I think there are about 12 of us. I'm not even sure how often we meet or when we meet. I do know that we meet at the library so that's a good thing. The group has chosen a book to read (before I joined) and it's called " Rhett Butlers People " ( I'm sorry, I'm having a deja vu thing going on. Have I talked about this already?) It took me a few days to read it. The 1st few chapters were kind of boring but then it got better. I have to admit that "Gone With the Wind" kept popping in my head and I would say in my best southern accent " Frankly my dear I don't give a damn " and also " I know nothing about birthing no babies"

I sure am glad that I was born in the time period that I was. I'm sure that I would not have done well in a flounced dress and in that heat. I would have had the old biddy's tongues a wagging!

I wonder how the group picks the books that they do? Do we each take turns and recommend a book? I'm thinking about all the nightmares that I might unleash with the books that I would choose!

  1. I don't think you should be allowed to choose the books. You like gory and scary books....they might like nice sweet sugarplum fairy type books.

  2. If you haven't read any Ivan Doig, please do.

When my mother retired at 59, she was bored silly. She was an avid reader, so I encouraged her to join a book club. She hemmed and hawed, but finally did and never regreted it. Some books bored her to death, and some reviewers were "out there", as she said. But she still is involved with the same group, and she's 72 now.

    Try it. Enjoy it.

  3. The book club decided to let each person take turns picking the book. I think so far it has worked well.

So what are you going to recommend everyone read Krissy?

  5. You like historical fiction, that might be a good genre to go with when it's your turn to pick.

I joined another book club. I came across a blog that had an invitation open for classic readers. There are in the middle of a Dicken's book - Little Dorrit - never even heard of it, but I'm going to give it a try.
