Sunday Confessions.

Have you ever baked something that was such a huge flop that maybe, just maybe it caused the death of one of God's creatures? Well I did! I'm a good baker now and also a pretty good cook. But I have a past.

Back when we lived on the sailboat I made some banana nut bread. But I forgot the baking soda and the baking powder. Which are very important ingredients. I ended up making banana nut brick. This bread was so heavy and inedible that we ( the family ) tossed it overboard into the ocean. We were anchored up for a few days. The next day my Dad went spear fishing for dinner. He got a fish called a grouper. When he gutted it...Yep....It had a belly full of banana nut brick!

That poor fish must have been weighed down and not able to swim fast enough to get away from my dad. Poor little fishy, his last meal was yucky banana nut brick.

  1. So did your dad get your oven fixed?

I have a baking flop story myself. In high school I took an "advanced" cooking class. Unfortunately, my best friend and I were the only ones that could cook! I got an A for the class, except for the layer cake I baked without baking soda or powder - I can't remember which. Anyway, both layers AND the frosting did not equal an inch. What a sad story for a professional baker's daughter and granddaughter!

Happy baking Krissy. I KNOW you are a GREAT cook and baker. I still dream about that fabulous flourless chocolate cake. YUMMY!

  7. I forgot the sugar in the pumpkin pie this year at Thanksgiving. It was pretty tasteless but not life threatening. That fish story is incredible. How strange!

  8. Patty, are you sure it was that and not my banana nut brick? It's been so long and I also thought that it was? I may have to print a retraction! I will ask Dad. He read it and didn't say that I was wrong so I wonder. K

  9. Well, I talked to my dad. He says it was spaghetti not banana nut brick that was in the fish. I'm glad that I was not the cause of the fish's death.
