Scent, it's a funny thing.They can trigger memories (like the corners of my mind) Today on my way home from work I passed a place where they must have been cutting a lot of trees down. I couldn't see as it was dark but the smell! Oh how I love the smell of cut pine! Which made me think about bad smells! This is a picture of a turkey farm. Trust me, you do not want to be down wind of this on a hot summer day. You can't see it in this picture but often you will see a huge, huge pile of white stuff piled up. I asked (but I guessed right!) and was told that it was turkey poop. They scoop it up and out of the long turkey barns and use it to fertilize the land. I know that if I had a turkey farm that the smell would smell like money too me. I used to work in the fish canneries in Alaska and I know that the smell of gutted fish was overwhelming to lots of people, but it smelled like money to me! I sure did have some fun working there! Nothing like slinging fish eyes, hearts and livers off your knife to your friends. And other fun things to do. Like having bets on who will jump naked into a gut tote! ( The night shift boss won that!)
Cut pine reminds me of when I used to work in that cabinet shop. it always smelled like fresh cut lumber. Everyonce in a while I'll get a sniff of something and I'm taken right back to childhood, or boat trip or Europe. And I don't even know what the smells are sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you are talking about the corner of hwy 170 & Cty. Rd D. At that intersection, they are cutting ALL the trees down so they can expand their field to grow corn! That makes me so mad...why do they have to cut the trees down for the sake of corn? Yeah, it's all about money. I love trees and forest, but farmers are greedy and right now it's all about corn to make ethanol! Grrrrr.

ReplyDeleteTotally off the subject, but what would be an accent color in your kitchen? I know you're not really ruled by color schemes (Lordy Lordy..I sure was a witness to that!)but iffin you had to choose what color would it be?
