Disappointment.

I like to bake, cook and just spend time in the kitchen. ( I even like to do the dishes by hand )
And being that yesterday was a windy snowy day. The kitchen was calling my name. I wanted to make cookies and so I did. I had some craisins and and followed the recipe on the back of the bag. I think it was Ocean Spray brand. Oatmeal/Raisins cookies are not something that I make as I don't like them. Well, I don't like cooked raisins. ( Ticks me off when they are hiding in cinnamon rolls and carrot cake ) Oatmeal/chocolate chip? Now that's a good cookie. But I thought that I would give this a try.
They are the blandest cookies I have ever had! I knew there was something wrong when the recipe didn't call for vanilla or any type of spice. I did add 1tps vanilla and 2tps cinnamon but they were still bland. So bland that I didn't take any to work. I would have been embarrassed to give them to others. That ended up to be a waste of butter and brown sugar. They aren't dry but they sure do get stuck in my throat. I have to drink 1 glass of milk for every 2 cookies. I better go get another gallon!

But on the plus side I read a real good book today before I went to work.
The name is " The Blonde" by Duane Swierczynski. Yes, it does have sex, bad words and violence.
But it was still good. It made me think. What if I was the person that had a man made virus that makes it so that you have to be within 10 feet of a person or you will die? Oh, and you're in a city that you have never been too before. How do you go to the bathroom. Sleep? Remember you have to have somebody within 10 feet of you all the time, and you're a stranger.

  1. Now if you want to try a good craisin cookie follow the recipe on the lid of Quaker oats and use craisins instead of the "rat turds". I also add coconut flaked and pecans....uuuummmmm good. I think we both learned that "Alaskan" raisins just are YUCK when we where kids and they where a hard square in the box that you couldn't get them out of short of cutting the box off. I get people all the time can't believe that I have never had a apple, pear, orange, peach or any other fruit fresh in my life. What is sold in the stores here is not ripe and than picked, it is picked so green that they hope it will ripen during shipment and usually all it does is rot. I have been told that I pick the best fruit out, my secret??? pick what smells the moldiest to me. God I can't stand melons and watermelon is the worst. Canned is YUCK. I would rather go pick blueberries, rasberries, rosehips, ligonberries than waste my money on rot.

  3. Maybe I'll get that book - sounds interesting. I just started a Kay Scarpetta mystery by Patricia Cornwell. Do you like her novels?

  4. I don't venture too out of the fence when it comes to cookies, I have our favorite tried and true recipes and I stick with them. It is really is a bummer when a recipe doesn't turn out.

Sounds like an interesting theme for a book.
