Happy Birthday Abby!

Abby was born 12 years ago today at the Kimbertal Kennels in PA. She ended up in AK because a military family bought her and got her shipped to them when she was 9 weeks old. That family only had her about 2 or 3 weeks and they got orders to go to HI. In HI dogs have to be quarantined for a long time and being that she was a puppy they didn't feel that that was the right thing to do. They put a add in the paper and a family in Seward AK bought her.

This family was a very busy family. They had 2 kids and the mom ran a daycare from her home. They also had a old lab, a giant schnauzer and a couple of cats. Then they added Abby to the mix. After a few months the husband said that it was too much! Someone had to go. The mom picked Abby as she didn't have the time to spend with Abby and Abby was a little wild. ( Just a puppy with no training )

They put an add in the paper and I called up and said that I would like to take a look at her. They had had lots of phone calls and we made a time for me to see her. I drove to Seward (2 1/2 hr drive ) and they choose me to be her new owner ( For money of course! ) They had 7 people come by to look at her but they said that I was the only "normal" person! All the others talked about how they wanted a mean dog, a guard dog, a watch dog. I said that I wanted a couch potato/active dog and that I had a doberman before and I knew that they where really a sweet and mild mannered dog. (Yes, they do have a natural guarding ability but they are really laid back.)

Abby and I took a beginners obedience class that lasted for 8 weeks and we got all the kinks worked out (for the most part ) and she has been a good dog since then.

When she was in her prime, I would take her for bike rides using the Springer and we would go for hours. She can't do that any more. We now take little walks and she spends her days in the summer digging up gofers and little critters. And in the winter napping and going for car rides.

To celebrate I had cake and Abby had some dried pig heart. ( She liked it )
