Farm Report.

This is for sure Wilbur, not Willow. Wilbur went to the vets today to lose some "things" I will pick him up tomorrow. He's probably not a happy camper.
This is Basil (boy) on the right. This is what little goat heads look like when they get their horn buds burned off. Nutmeg is on the left but you can't see her cute little goat face.

Here's Nutmeg, looking all cute and grownup.
I don't have a good picture yet of Sage yet. Being that she feeds from her momma, she does not follow me around and gets in my way. I do pick her up, and pet her, she's very friendly, just not like the other ones, but that's because they are bottle fed.

Today I sprayed the goats with some bug dope. The bugs were very thick this morning. You would think that Juju is part fainting goat! I had her by her collar and just as I hit the spray button she collapsed! I think the hiss of the spray scared her. Maybe she thought it was a snake? Or it just smelled bad? When she got up, I sprayed my hands and wiped her down. When I'm done with this can of dope I will go get the dope that is on wipes and use them.

  1. So I'm confused, if Wilbur had "things" as you call them, then wouldn't it have been rather obvious that he was not a Willow? Your baby goats are very cute. They look well fed, must be getting enough milk. You are such a good little goat mommy.

  2. PAK - I assure you that Wilbur's "things" were not well defined like you'd imagine they would be, so it was hard to know.

Good job on the de-budding Krissy!
And Bob Barker would probably love it that you got Wilbur taken care of too.

  3. Cute little kids! I am pleased that they seem to be thriving. Is is usual for 1st time mom's to reject babies? Curious minds.....
By the way - I think Patty did an amazing work on Carina. She is very talented. I was pulled right into your adventure. I was right there on the Carina with the family.

One more thing. WAY too long between posts!

  4. How much milk are you getting now from the two goats?? I order garlic in gallon jugs from Sprintime to feed in horse grain. It really has made a dfference in the flies/knats/ticks on them. (sure is rank when they belch in your face!!) Have not tried it on the dog, tho.

  5. We recently had some kittens, but the boy was well defined when he was born! I was a bit surprised, but I had to help momma have him. He came out back feet first and was really HUGE. I really don't think she would have been able to do it by herself. Within two days his 'sack' had filled out and the testes had dropped into them. He's a little dark gray tabby.

What kind of bug dope do you use? The goats are so pretty!

  6. I wonder if you can use the stuff that you put down a horse's back in a stripe (like Advantage, only for horses) on your goats? I'll have to look at what it's called. I have some here at home since Maddie hates fly spray.

Juju might not like the citronella smell of the spray. Maybe that was her issue?

  8. I remember last year, I had the hardest time finding bug spray safe for lactating goats. I finally found an all citronella pump spray. Now Febe just stands there when I spray her. The other ones try to escape.
