Jokes on me!

My friend Kellie and her family have been over to my house a few times this summer. Last two times they ran in to some bad things.

Kellie brushed up against some poison sumac and got a blister and rash in seconds. I got out the jewel weed stuff and that took care of it. Then last time, one of her kids brushed up again some stinging nettles that I had next to the stairs. Again, the jewel weed stuff worked.

I didn't know that I had poison sumac or stinging nettles. They never bothered me. I felt a little bit superior to them as I was "tougher" then them. ( Weaklings!) Until today. My Aunt Donna and a friend came over to visit with me. They wanted to see the baby chicks that were in the back part of the goat pen.

I was looking for the chicks and brushed up against a plant (Stinging nettle) and instantaneously it felt like I had been cut with razors and glass! WOW! It hurt, it hurt a lot! I came into the house and put some jewel weed stuff on and it helped, but ten hours later my leg still has a burning/stinging sensation where the plant brushed me.

I think I need to make a new batch of jewel weed stuff and this time I will use witch hazel or rubbing alcohol. I think that will help cut the oils in the plants.

  1. Ohhhhh, I know that feeling. Last summer we had nettles over by our compost pile and I accidentally touched it....instant heat and pain. Now you know Krissy.

  2. superiority! Ha! You just somehow missed them before. Can you imagine falling off the porch into a bush of stinging nettles instead of the water bucket?

  3. Hi Krissy, have your got some vinegar handy. If it helps for blue bottles it will help for nettles. (Advice from a doctor.)

  6. Ouch! I was trying to identify a plant in my goat yard and I too found what it feels like to get stung from stinging nettle! Of course, I have felt it before, but this was a bit different... I put apple cider vinegar on mine to take the sting away - which did help. It hurt for two days and then all that was left was a couple tiny red spots.

  7. Kris,
I mailed the package this morning. The box has 4 books; 2-3 on gardening and 1 or 2 cookbooks that I thought you might enjoy.
The rain started up again today it has been pouring!!!

  8. Well, I guess that serves you right for laughing. Nettles are defiantly not a plant to be messed with. Maybe you should get up a good concoction of that jewel weed and start marketing it. It sounds like it is a good cure all for lots of stuff.
