Pretty cool huh?

Just in case you can't tell, that is a glass insulator in wood. My friend T.J. heats with wood, and last year while he was cutting wood, and splitting it, he found this in one of the logs. He gave it to me as I thought that it was pretty cool. He told me he wouldn't ever burn it, but he didn't know what to do with it and it was just sitting in his wood shed. I think that I'm going to see if I can take off a little more wood to expose it more, then put it on the porch, or in the flower bed. I just wonder how the glass insulator got stuck or so close to the tree that the tree grew around it. This is a good size chuck of wood.

  1. That is pretty cool ~ glad to hear that you're going to display it somewhere, somehow ... I like that. I hate when people have things and keep them tucked away and don't enjoy them.

  2. That's very cool! My dad used to have a collection of glass insulators. I always thought they looked like colored mushrooms.

  6. It is amazing what living trees can do. There's a spot on the road where several alder or willow have grown up through a chain link fence and kind of engulfed it.

  7. We have a couple of those old insulators on our old trees on the hill side. They were used on cattle fences years ago. One of our trees has kind of grown around one too. That one is really hidden, must have been attached to the tree for a really long time.
