Cry wolf?

I have a little local weather do-hicky thing that pops up on my computer and lets me know whats going on. Well for the past few weeks that baby has been crawling on my lower screen with a severe weather alert. It will list all the counties that are affected by the weather. The problem that I see is that everything is severe weather! Fog, its severe, wind, yep severe, cold you got it, that's severe.

When I think of severe, I think really super duper bad. For wind to be severe, to me that means that maybe trees will be knocked over, roofs might blow off. Severe cold, that needs to be -30 or more. Maybe winter weather to me just means that its going to windy and cold and you will get some fog tossed in just to add to the fun.

I know come summer time, when I see that severe weather alert crawl. I will be very worried! I'm not used to thunder storms and tornado warning and hail storms that hurt you and dent your car! I find it just a little confusing that here your really super duper bad weather happens in the summer! That's just not right!

  1. I will never be used to the storms we get in the summer. This summer, we were very close to a tornado that touched down that did a lot of damage. It freaked me right out.

I kept a baby bag packed and ready to go for much of the summer if we needed to head to the basement.

The storm sirens went off more than what I ever remember this summer, too. But it may have been because we just moved into the house so EVERYTHING seemed new and scary. :)

We're still under a severe weather alert, but nothing happened today! No flurries, no rain, nothing. It was just warm enough to melt everything. Darn.

  3. Yup, we do have whopper summer storms. You learn to keep one eye on the skies from May through August.

The temps have actually gone higher tonight so everything is dripping outside, but tomorrow will be a different story when the cold air comes back....icy!

  4. It's like here, the weather people are always predicting it will warm up or cool down or snow 2 inches or not at all and it NEVER does what they predict it will do.
