Awake rant.

I don't usually post this early in the morning. I normally wait (weight) till I get off work to (two,to and too) do (dew) this. Last night I woke up and could not get back to sleep for the most dumbest of reason! Does that ever happen to you (ewe)? My reason was WORDS! I know (no) it sounds dumb and it was.
I am a bad speller. In 9th grade my English teacher had the class do (dew) a weekly spelling test. On Fridays she would put up 20 words on the blackboard and we would also have a test for the 20 words that we got the previous week. In that class I learned to (two, too,to) cheat! I did not feel bad for doing it. I would (wood) have failed English for that grade if were not for cheating on the test. I knew (new) I wasn't dumb but I could just not spell. I was a bad speller from 1st grade. The teachers would (wood ) say back then "sound it out" well I would (wood) and still I would (wood) fail. Then whenever there (their) was a spelling test I would (wood) feel sick to my stomach.

These are the following words that my mind was stuck on last night.(Knight)

Two, too and to. I know two, the other two? I get confused on when to use them.
Weight and wait.
Way and weigh and whey.
Site and sight.
Hair and hare.
Hear and here.
Where and wear.
Which and witch.
Cot and caught
So and sow (seed sow not sow as in pig !) and sew. See? (Sea) right there (their) ! Sow and sow spelled the same but sound different depending on what you are talking about!

And then we have
K as in Knife
N as in Knight
P as in Photo
P as in Psychology
T as in Tsunami
G as in Gnome
Lets not forget the sound "F" as in tough, enough all ready! But not in through! (threw)
And lets not forget the silent "b" as in lamb, comb and bomb.

And I tried and tried and failed the test. I knew (new) what the words meant but could not spell them.

THE END.

P.S. I never was caught cheating. It was fail proof! And I only did this on spelling test. All others I did the right way.

The end.

  1. Poor (pour) Kris. I (eye) knew (new) you (ewe) struggled with spelling but (butt) not (knot) that you (ewe) cheated. Shame on you (ewe). Cheating is never right (write). Did you (ewe) know (no) that I (eye) used to (two, too) think there (their) were (we're) jores and drawers in a dresser? That's how it sounds when you (ewe) say it.

  2. English is hard, man. My husband is really and truly brilliant, but the man can't spell worth a tinker's damn. And I'm an editor, and I still get hung up on some words (separate always gives me pause).

You should just start speaking and writing in Spanish. That's all phonetic.

  3. I am a really poor speller too. I usually know how to use a word, but sometimes get confused about how to spell it. I can usually spell the gigantic words, its the everday ones that sometimes trip me up. There are some words that I always mispell and even some I write backwards the first time. Thank God of spell check!!!!!!!!

I once told my sister that I wanted to be a writer someday and she laughed at me and said that I couldn't spell and how did I think I was going to accomplish that! Well you don't have to be a great speller to be a good writer - after all it's the thought that counts and of course spell check helps too!

  4. Oh Krissy, I totally understand your spelling issues. I struggled with spelling in school too. Now I use spell check for everything, emails, Word docs, blog posts etc.
