I had a hit!

For Church today I brought deviled eggs. After my past few dishes that didn't do so well , I was struggling about what to bring. Deviled eggs, you just can't go wrong with them. When I was putting them in the fridge at Church, I saw that somebody else brought some! So the deviled egg duel was on! I think I won. Mine were gone first! He used miracle whip in his? I used mayo and a good spoonful of horseradish, oh and some yellow mustard. I was thinking about making mac and cheese, with Velveeta! (I think Velveeta would be a hit at my Church!) but somebody always brings that. It's not the homemade kind, it's out of a box and it ain't Kraft! ( They need to add some Velveeta to it!) There was a lot of food today. That was nice, sometimes there is not much and we have to cut the hot dogs in half! And you are so out of luck if your late to the food. You might get a big ol plate of nothing! Now I need to think about what I will bring next week. It needs to be tasty, filling and not to expensive to make. I want to bring lasagna but that can be pricey with the all the cheese that goes into it. What to bring, what to bring.

  1. Tater tot hot dish is usually a big hit around here, or some kind of sheperds pie and seven layer salad is an old time pot luck winner! Anyway a few ideas. It is nice that your congregation gets together every Sunday but it would be hard to think of new things to bring that people will eat. Don't know if I helped any. Glad you had a winner with the deviled eggs. Sounds yummy, I love them but don't often make them.

  2. I think sloppy joes in a crock pot with buns on the side would be a hit. And it's fairly cheap.

Bean dip with chips is cheap too but can serve a lot if you do it like a layered salad. Beans, sourcream, shredded cheese, green onions, etc.

  3. Potluck every Sunday? You'll need to figure out how much $ you can spend each Sunday to share with your church body. After you know that $ amount, then you should sit down and figure out what recipes you can afford. Maybe once a month you could make something really special. Deviled eggs was a good choice to make since eggs are reasonably priced!

  4. Have any canned salmon from Alaska?? You could make salmon maccaroni salad (instead of tuna).
How about scroodle goulosh - using scroodle (?) noodles or really any kind. Add browned hamb, green pepper, minced garlic & onion (after cooked with hamp until tender) canned tomatoes. Maybe a wilted spinach salad (warm up bacon dressing and toss at last minute). Do you have recipie for broccoi salad with sunflower seeds, green onion, bacon etc?? That is always at hit here at work. Look on Pioneer Woman website - she has some great recepies.

  5. http://allrecipes.com/ .. you use the all recipes search and put in the main ingredients you have on hand and see what recipes come up... It's really cool and we've found good recipes. There's reviews and I use recipes with multiple ***** reviews.

Good deviled eggs always disappear fast and can be cheap. We buy the 2 for the price of 1 eggs ...
