I'm always amazed at how my mind works! I know others are just as amazed at my mind as I am!
It is now getting windy and as I pulled into my long driveway I saw that I had some drifts and that I will have some nice ones by tomorrow morning. The drifts had me thinking about snow humps, which made me think about an incident that happened back in 1981 or 82! This would have been my JR or SR year. I think that I have blocked it out of my mind!
One weekend a friend from a class invited me and some other girls to go to Alyeska for a weekend of downhill skiing (Which I have never ever done!) After school on Friday we drive down and go to her family's cabin. The ones that knew how to ski left to do some night skiing.
The next morning I get my 1st lesson on how to downhill ski on the bunny slope. You would take a tow rope to the top of a small gentle hill and come down. I learned the basic "snow plow" that I turned into the butt plow as I was on my behind a lot! and I learned how to do big slow turns.
After lunch I went to the more advanced hill. I was going faster, could do tight turns and wasn't falling down and could do the moguls just fine and the big one, I could get on and off the chair lift!
My friend left me to do my own thing as she was good and needed more of a challenge.
I'm hot, I'm cool, I'm shushing down the hills, when I turn, I kick up some snow spay! Why?Cause I'm hot! I ski up to the chair lift and as the line moves forward I realize that I'm next to a really cute guy! I start counting the people in line and realize that we ( yeeeee) are going to sit together on the chair lift! As we wait for our chair we talk just a little bit. I'm still cool! The chair comes by, we sit and being that I was so cool I forgot the one most important thing when you get on the chair lift! It's keep you ski tips up! I didn't! My skis stick into the hump and the bindings wont snap free and I get halfway catapulted out of the chair! They have to stop the whole lift to get me untangled! People high up in the air are looking back at me! People behind me groan! I was so,so not cool!
I shared, it's your turn to share! What's one of your embarrassing moments?
My husband, the Corporate Prince, is friends with the family that owns Alyeska. He and their son went to school together.
ReplyDeleteOf course you had to talk about Alyeska today! I almost moved to Girdwood a few years ago. I'm sure I'd have been very happy there! It's such a pretty place.
No really cool, show-off moments for me. I'm a born klutz so I usually laugh off my klutziness.
I'm laughing so hard right now that I can't think of my own embarrassing moment. My tummy hurts!!!! Give me time to stop laughing and maybe I'll think of my own "e" moment.
ReplyDeleteMy most embarrasing moment happened at the Animal Clinic where I worked but I can't relate that one. Too many innuendos that aren't appropriate for a family page. A recent embarrassing moment was when a coworker spelled out a word to put an emphasis on it (she has two small children so often spells words). I was puzzled because I didn't realize she was spelling a word. I thought it was an anacronym for something and I asked "what's that mean?" right in front of my boss who had a good laugh at my expense.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Patty! I have told people your story about working at the Vet clinic!
ReplyDeleteI haven't see the video, but last week some guy skiing in Vail (or Aspen) got hung up getting off (?) the chair lift. Guess he wound up hanging upside down for about 7 minutes with his pants down around his knees. The radio people said the weather had to be really cold!!! Have you seen it posted anywhere on internet??
