Have you ever really embarrassed yourself in front of a lot of people? I mean a lot? I sure did!
My 2nd airline job was with a company called AirPac. I was a ticket agent. One of the duties of a ticket agent was to make sure that all the people were on the plane. To do that you would compare tickets that you pulled to the passenger manifest.
Well, on this one day and on this one flight I was missing one passenger. Now, I don't know about you but up in Alaska I didn't have much experience in name pronunciation of people from different countries. The only time I have ever seen this name that I needed to page over the Anchorage airport was in the bible! I picked up the paging phone and boldly and loudly I said over the whole airport "AirPac is paging JESUS Gonzales, JESUS Gonzales please come to gate C2 for your flight" Yes, I sounded the name out and JESUS did not look like a hey-sus to me!
I was laughed at and told the proper was to say Jesus. Soon a short little Mexican came to the gate. Needless to say, this was not the 2nd coming of the Christ!
Maybe I should have taken Spanish in high school not German.....................But the 2 years of high school German came in handy a few years later. That's a story for another time.

I don't blame you Krissy, that is how I would have pronounced it before I took Spannish. And then the way some mom's SPELL the name of their baby, oh my!

If you get a chance, go to FAITHAK.com and listen to Steve's message last week. OR WATCH IT IF YOU CAN.

ReplyDeleteCan we look forward to another Suday confessional next week?
For those asking, Abbys foot is doing much better. She forgets that its sore and will walk on it. Then remember it when I have food. Just like a kid!
