Work

This pic has nothing to do with the post today. I just like the shapes and colors.

One of the things that's neat about working at a library is that you get to be a Peeping Tom. And it's all legal. By that I mean that you get to know what's going on with the patrons by the books that they check out.

For awhile we had a couple of young ladies that where into the Wicca stuff. I'm glad to see that that was a phase as they are no longer getting those books.

I wonder about some of the patrons that come in and get books about personality problems, mental health issues and drug/alcohol addictions.

Then you see some people with sex books. I keep a straight face and just check them out. Some of them you can tell that they are embarrassed to check them out.

I wonder about this one guy that comes in. He kind of looks dirty and he smells of stale cigarettes and has booze breath. He gets the Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler books. I guess you can't judge a person by what they look like. I sure wouldn't have picked him as a reader.

Today we had a patron come in. He kind of made me cranky. He wants us to order/find books for him. So I did. The books came in and he's all most complaining about what I picked out for him! But he did not give us a list of titles or authors or even a type that he likes! I told him that I would get him a lot of romance novels if he has a problem! ( I take some of that back, He did give us one author, Jack Higgins, but the book that I got him was not the one he wanted. I can't mind meld like Spock!)

I like to people watch and this is right up there in the watching department!

  1. Just when you think you know people well, they turn on you! It's all about how their day is going. We just have to smile at them...while thinking in our heads...you creep!

  2. I remember when I worked in a deli that people would order a sandwich a certain way and then not be happy with it. Duh? They ordered it. Specifically. I think being a checker would be similar - seeing what people buy. You have some experience as a checker too, don't you? hee hee hee

  3. I really dislike it when people aske me to suggest books for them or reserve something and they don't really tell you what they want.

I find it fun to people watch too. Sometimes when I am doing the courier stuff I guess who the book is for before I scan it in. I guess right most of the time. You kind of get to know what people read what after a while.
