Life long Alaskan that needed a change and finding it in Wisconsin.
Ohhhhh, have a heart Krissy. She just needs some tender loving words!
Well, Krissy, thanks for the absolutely enjoyable time I had catching up on your blog. I have been busy trying to catch the last fish and pick all the berries I need for winter, so I have been missing you. Your chicken is laying some eggs the size of some of our potatoes!! And I was just about peeing my pants reading about you and your mom contemplating the idea of you peeing on your chickens! Ahem, I did notice a little whining about the rain and soggy chickens, and I even laughed about that. And those logs....just like the driftwood I'm always dragging up the beaches. And it is getting gosh darn hard as I get old!
Isn't that what they call a pullet? Next year she'll lay a bigger egg.
The small egg may be from a first time layer. Give it a few months. They'll get bigger. Unless you have a banty in the mix.
If you work for the muni you have to make sure you've explained the egg laying process correctly, provide plenty of encouragement for the hen to lay larger eggs, and then encourage her in any other successes even if she continues to under perform because you wouldn't want her to feel badly. I say, AXE HER! just joking. I feel a satorical book coming in my head except mine will be about municipal employees disguised as under performing chickens.
Uhhhhhhh - if you were a chicken which egg would you rather lay??!!!
