So what is it?

Okay, some of you might think that I'm a cold hearted person but something has been bugging me for the past month or so that I hear on the radio with the Public Service Announcements/Add Council.

Do we, in the U.S.A have a epidemic of starving children or do we have an epidemic of obesity in our children?  I hear PSA's for both, and sometimes one right after the other.  Then I hear that the public schools are going to take out all the "bad food" out of the vending machines because the kids are eating to much of the bad food.  Also, public schools have reduced or free lunch programs, so family's can take advantage of that, if need be.  For me, I just don't see where this epidemic of starving kids in America is at.

I think that we in America have so much food that we forget that some countries truly have many of their citizens dying from the lack of food, not just going to bed hungry.

Aunt Krissy, one who needs to go to bed hungry.

  1. They keep showing a public announcement here about all the homeless children and the average age is 9. Average age of ALL homeless people (I think not) or the average age of homeless people from the ages of 0 to 18? Do they count runaways? I get so tired of statistics that imply something but don't really give you the real information. I see lots of homeless people and I would guess the average age to be somewhere between 35 and 60. Not 9.

  2. one of my close friends is a high school teacher here outside of Houston in a relatively rural area... and she sees the hungry kids every day. They are not necessarily poor, but their parents/people they live with make poor choices with the money - big tvs, video games, drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. Feeding the kids and animals is not a priority. Most of these kids are too proud to say anything, but they surley will be there for breakfast at the school! Heartbreaking to think that a parent/caregiver would think of their selfish wants before the needs of the children, but it happens all the time. It's a huge issues in the city as well, but not confined to there - happens in every area, where selfish parents/caregivers live. :P

    1. It's not the world. It's we, Americans. If you think it's the world, you are mistaken, man. The lack of food in the countries - and we throw out the food.
