Why did I do that?

When I was down in Colorado I had the young man that was watching the place dig up my garden and make it bigger. Why did I do that? The very first year that i was here I gardened and kind of had some fun with it. This summer it seemed more of a chore that anything. I did get some nice zucchini out if it but everything else kind of fizzled out. Now that it's a lot bigger I will have to plant more and do more work. I think that I have a love/hate thing with it. One part of me is already thinking about what I want to plant and spring is a long long way off. The other part of me is dreading dragging out the hose to water and the weeding! Yuck, who likes that? And then you have to do something with all that you planted. I'm getting hot and cranky just thinking about it!
I am done wrapping soap for the craft fair. I counted and I have 295 bars of soap ready to go.

  3. you need to work on getting a sprinkler system set up over by the garden. Maybe get an above ground water storage tank that collects rain water, have it set up right by the garden and use that.
Great job on the soap. That is a lot of work.

  6. Krissy! How are you going to keep your goats out of it? better put up a fence. I think thats a good size garden... just plant things far apart and you wont have to plant too much! Stagger plantings so you dont have everything coming at once. Good job on the soap.. are you making more to sell on your new site? I'm anxious to see that..
have fun at the craft fair.

  7. Hummmm, Rose does have a point there! Better figure putting a fence around your veggie garden, or you will have a headache with the "girls".

That's a lot of soap Krissy!

  8. I've been planning out our garden here for next year. I'm taking a portion of the pasture that the horses don't seem to use and plan to run some hotwire across that area so they can't get in it. I'm going to have to terrace the garden as everything is on a steep, steep hill here. And we're planning a separate orchard. Don't know if we'll get that in this next year or not though.

I can't wait until you get your soap site up!

  9. Are you going to do any raised beds to make weeding easier?? Getting more and more soap orders down here and still have to get samples to Sally to take in. Anxiously awaiting samples of new "flavors"!!!

  10. Wow, that's a lot of soap! Can't wait for your soap site. I have told a lot of people here in OKC. They are looking forward to being able to buy great soap.

As for the garden, you are a much better woman than me. I've bought the seeds.:) Two years ago.:(

  11. This year I decided to try something different with my weeding. Since I have so much hay on the floor from the goats I put it in between the rows. That way the garden gets fertilized when it rains and the weeds are alot less.

At first I thought that I'd get more weeds from the hay tops, but the goats eat almost all of them, so no seeds from the hay. In the fall most of the hay has disintegrated so just till it under.
