I went to bed real early Saturday night. So of course I woke up real early Sunday morning. Early as in 4.30am! The day before I had started a loaf of the "No Knead Bread" and I needed to do a little work with it and then at 5.30am I popped that in the oven. Also, while messing with the bread I did a load of darks. At 6am I went back to bed and read a little bit. What made it a Good Morning was, the wonderful smell of bread baking, my beloved dog snuggled up against me in bed and a good book. The book is " Dragonfly in Amber " by Diana Gabaldon. Now don't laugh. This is the 3rd time I have read this book. Gabaldon has written a series called the "Outlander" series and the 7th book is due out in 2009 (Spring?) and so I am reading the whole series again so that when I get book 7, I will be refreshed on who is who and what is what! When I got tired of reading I took a little nap until the oven timer went off and the bread was ready. Had a nice slice of hot fresh bread with butter and that cherry jam I got awhile back. Then went to Church.
Oh, and I don't have a life style that can be cramped by having a 75lb Doberman in my bed!
Oh, and I understand why the English language is hard to learn! The word need, kneed and knead all sound the same but mean very different things! No wonder I failed spelling!

I can almost smell the bread baking. Isn't that the best smell? I think a person could get drunk on that smell!
ReplyDeleteAbby sounds like a perfect bed partner.
I love that series and have read it a few times too. Thats right I read your copies..still looking to get my own. The library here is open on monday, tuesday, thursday, and friday 2pm to 5pm if the volunteer makes it to the building. So far in the last month I have been there twice a week and nobody showed. I think I am going to have to get a card at your library and have you mail me books...never mind the last package took three weeks to get here from Anchorage. That bread your making "no knead" is that a fast bread, self rising or like beer bread cause I have been doing the sourdough thing and making bricks. Might be building my house out of sourdough bricks since the dog won't even touch it. And so you know I am laughing rolling on the floor it has been 20 below the last two mornings and I got no sympathy for you all...I just get dressed in my snowsuit and boots pull the string on my snowmachine and go ridin for the day....what do you mean you can't find your mittens????
ReplyDeleteJenny, the no knead bread is a yeast bread. Its 3 cups flour, 1/4t
ReplyDeleteyeast, 1 and 1/2t of salt and 1 and 1/2 cup water. (maybe a little more water if your flour is real dry) Mix it all up, cover it and place in a warm place and let raise
for 15 to 18 hours! then dump os out and roll it around for about 10 to 15 sec and put back in bowl and let it sit for about another hour or so. about 1/2 hour befor your ready to bake it, turn on over up to 475 and pre heat a dutch oven with lid or a pyrex bowl with lid and after the 1/2 hour is up, being very careful tip the bread into the preheated pot,put the lid on and bake for about 20 min at 475 and then take off lid, turn oven to 350 and bake another 20 to 30 min, till nice and brown. Cool, cut, eat! The crust its real crusty so I put a towel voer it as it cools so that the crust is a little softer, ot rub it with butter when its hot. being that you have that long rise, you do get just a little bit of a sourdough taste but not much.
its a very easy bread to make and it always turns out for me. goodluck
I remember your no knead bread. It's good. I should make some this weekend. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteHey JP, I responded before I read yours.
ReplyDeleteI feel really sorry for you in that extremely cold temp. But, who chooses to live in the interior? You! Why! You're crazy! I'll get my mittens today or go buy some.
