Best salsa ever!

Today before I went to work I went to my friend Kellie's house to help her make the best salsa ever! Now I have made bunches of jam's and pickles before and I have a pressure cooker and I have canned moose meat with my sister and I have also canned other stuff but I have never made anything with tomatoes, the whole peeling and chopping and blanching just seemed to be to much, not worth the bother Well, this salsa is worth the bother! My job was to peel and rough chop the tomatoes and I did that rather well if I do say so myself. Kellie made 17 pints and still had enough to make another batch, other then she didn't have enough hot peppers. It was so good that on Wed, on my off day, I'm going up to Clinkers and getting that big bunch of tomatoes to make salsa just like Kellie's. So when my Mom and Dad come down and also when my sister Patty and her husband come down, I will give them homemade salsa.

Bone Yard

In aviation there is a bone yard, I think its in AZ where all the "dead" planes go. By dead, I mean planes that are too old to fly anymore or too badly broke to fix. That's where Hollywood goes to get airplanes to blow up in movies and stuff.
North of me is the small town of Ridgeland ( pop 257 ) and I saw this bone yard of old tractors. I never thought about what happens to tractors that get old and get replace by something shiny and new, I wonder if the old tractors feelings get hurt?
I know that people like old tractors but that's the real old antique ones that folks like, like my Dad! If he had been with me he would probably want to spend an hour walking around looking and touching them. Glad he was not with me! Not really, I would have been happy to spend 5 hours looking at them if my Dad was here visiting with me. But I just don't see Hollywood needing tractors to blow up in the movies. I mean come on, when was the last time that you saw that?

Brrrr

I feel like I still live in Alaska! This morning it was chilly! The temp inside the house was at 57 so I turned on the heat and got the house up to 66. I know if my Dad was here he would have the heat cranked to 72! It seems like in one day it went from summer to fall but I have been told that we will still have some warm days coming. I think that I have taken to warm weather like a gofer to my yard! I have to say though that I don't really care for the humidity! YUCK!
This is how cold it was at 7am Tuesday morning!

And this is what it did to my garden! No more tomatoes! YES! Oh I mean rats!
I was so liking the abundance of fruit of my labor.

A little Haiku for you.

Tomatoes are gone!
No longer will they nag me.
I wish I had some.

What to do?

I don't know what to do with my over abundance of cherry/plum/grape/pear tomatoes! This bowl is a 2 day harvest of them, I have O.D. I cut about 30 of them in half, mixed them up with some fresh basil and tossed them with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper and slow roasted them and then put all that in the food processor with some fresh garlic and made a pasta sauce, it was OK, not bad, but I don't want that every night for dinner. And I see that I have about another 100 getting ripe as I type. I am going to start have dreams of giant cherry tomatoes chasing me and telling me "eat me!" Oh the horror of it all! (As she puts a hand to to brow and swoons!)

Another little Haiku for you.

Tomatoes........again!

Are there to many post about my garden? If so,too bad! My blog, my choice on what to talk about and right now, tomatoes are in my life. I picked a lot a few days ago and gave them away and now I see that I need to pick again! I do know that next summer I will only plant 1 of the yellow pear type. They are low acid and they are too bland.
They do make a nice color contrast in a salad but blah in the flavor department.

A little Haiku for you!

I have tomatoes.
Now I have to eat them up.
Raw? gag!cooked? gag!gag!
