This and that.

On Thursday my Uncle and Aunt ( My Dad's brother ) came by for a visit. It was nice to have them here. They were going to stay the night but plans changed so that only stayed the day.I got a kick out of the fact that they are only a 5 hour or so drive away from me but they pack a cooler for lunch. It's a smart ideal really. They would rather make their own sandwiches and stop at a place that has a nice view them eat fast food. When I go to CO in October I think I will do that also. I'm going to have to stop a few times for Abby to take a potty break, might as well eat better food then fast food.

I had to break some bad news to Abby this morning. She and the kittens were all cuddled up on the bed last night. The kittens found us and spent the night. When I got up one time I turned on the light and saw the kittens back to back with Abby. She didn't believe me at first but has now come to terms with it. We wont rule out therapy..... yet.

My sisters up in AK wont believe this next sentence but it is the truth. I went to 3 craft type stores today and I did not get whiny in any why, shape or form. I went with my friend from work. She was looking for beading stuff and I was looking for soap stuff. I actually had fun ( gulp) looking at all the shiny beads.
Huh, I wonder if this might be why I'm having some computer problems?

Fun times.

A few days ago I was sitting on the couch all fat dumb and happy. I had the front door open to catch the cross breeze and I had some cotton fluffy stuff go by. I got up as I thought that it came in from the outside. On the way to close the door I looked over at this corner and saw that a few of my cat tails things had busted up. Great! That's the stuff floating around the house. Got out the dog scare (Vacuum ) and went to work.
I had piles of this to vacuum up. The air from the vacuum makes the fluffy stuff fluff around. It was kind of like herding cats, I think, I never have herded cats before so I'm just guessing on that. A few days later I'm still finding bits of fluff. I think that I will be finding it for a long time.

Collection

I collect Silver Overlay. I started about 10 years ago and I have about 30 pieces. These are 2 of my favorite ones. Most often your Silver Overlay comes in clear glass and of course the color stuff cost more money, but then it's harder to find. In fact I only have these 2 and then I have a pitcher with a set of 4 glasses that are colored.

It was not really a problem when I was up in Alaska making good money to collect this. Whenever I would go on vacation I would check out antique stores and estate sales to see what I could find. Now that I have moved here to Wisconsin and I'm not making the money that I used to make. I don't even go into antique stores! I just know that there are beautiful and wonderful stuff that I'm passing by! But I need to feed the dog. (Stupid dog! but I love her )

Being that my sister is going to be here tomorrow! I still had my 2 boxes of Silver Overlay to unpack. So I started to do it and realized that I don't have a place to display the whole collection so I just will have these 2 out for awhile. And Patty will just have to deal with the 2 boxes in her room. Hey, I washed the sheets for her! What more could an older sister want? Other then a younger sister pointing out that she is older! She wants to go to Red Lobster as we don't have that in Alaska and maybe also Olive Garden, for the same reason. So one more night and she will be here! Yahoo!

Craft fairs.

A few weeks ago I went to a craft fair in a little town called Elk Mound. It's about a 40 minute drive from my house. It was huge! The crafts were being held in both the high and elementary school buildings. Elk Mound is smaller then Colfax but they have a much bigger school system. I guess they have a bigger rural area. Anyway, back to the craft fair. It's not a bad thing. Well yes it is! They don't have food booths like they do up in Anchorage. The only food that was there was from the P.T.A.? Or some group like that. Hot dogs, nachos, BBQ ( which is loose meat and sauce on a bun ) and cookies and cake. No little this and that! I like me some this and that! ( How about a prime rib sammy and a cream puff at the big PAC fair? ) And this one had a lot of bead type stuff. Way to much bead stuff for me. I did end up buying 3 bars of home made goat milk soap, which I love! The soap maker was telling me that she sure wished there was a local seller of goat milk in this area. She has to buy hers from some guy way up north. Huh? I do want goats? I'm thinking! I also bought these beautiful blankets. I can't remember if this is crocheted or knitted? I can't tell! but what I can tell you is, that I got both for $50. I thought that that was a real nice price. I love the colors and they have a nice tight stitch that your toes don't poke through! And hand made by a nice little old lady. I love little old ladies!

Also 2 nights and 1 and 1/2 days till my sister gets here! EEEEEEEE

Am I weird?

On Saturday I went to a small town north of me
called Sand Creek.
They were having their Pumpkin Festival. Basically it was a craft fair, which I have been going to as I hear about them. I like to check out what local craft folk are up to. This craft fair was OK, not a very big one. It was being held in the community center where the local library is at. And me being me, I checked out the library first! The librarian was very nice and we chatted for about 15 minutes or so. They are not on any computer system so they still use the card catalog system! Can you image? They have a file box and each and every book has a card that gets put into the box under the patron's name. While I was there I pulled out some books to see when they were last checked out. Some have not been read in over 10 years! That's why I'm wondering if I'm weird. I felt sorry for the books! Books come to life when we read them and the characters are "dead" until we pick them up and do so! So get out there and read! You can save a life!

Does that make me odd? Really, you can tell me! My feelings wont be hurt......... too much!

Crafty

I have seen homes that have cat tails for decorations, in fact my Mom at one time had some, but I don't know what happened to them? I know I didn't damage them! ( I have been known to accidentally damage things and we don't need to discuss this anymore!) Up in Alaska we have cat tail but they are not in abundance, so down here in Wisconsin I see lots and lots of them, as there are a lot of swamps and ditches and the like. So when my friend Linda was here I told her about them and she warned that I was going to get wet as that's what cat tails like, well guess what? I got a bunch and didn't get a toe wet! I have to admit that I had to do some serious reaching to get them so that I didn't get wet, I'm sure that as cars drove by people where wondering what that crazy lady was doing in the ditches with the big loppers! I got the coffee pot at a antique store and when I first put the cat tails in there, there was way way to much room, so I filled up the inside with 7 teacups and poked the bottoms of the cat tails in around them, I think that was rather ingenious of me! Now I need to spray them down with hair spray, that's what I have been told to do to keep them from "fluffing"out?
