Last night I was startled by some loud knocking on my door. It was about 8.30pm and I was thinking who could that be? It was my neighbors kid wanting to know if I had lost a black and white cat as it was hanging around their place. And also they ( His girlfriend was with him) came by to invite me to his dads birthday party and a little neighbor get together. I said noop not my cat and thanked them for the invite.
I talked to my friend Kellie this morning and she really encouraged me to go. She said that I needed to meet them and this was the perfect way. You never know when you might need their help or need to tell a neighbor that your sorry about your dog killing their cows and what not. ( Not that Abby would or could kill a cow, but you get the drift)
So I met Randy and his wife and their 2 kids. Their kid Micheal is 17, he's the one that came over last night. I was asked about guns and I said that I think everybody should have one. That was what they wanted to hear. They are the ones that shoot the guns that I hear. They like to target practice.
I also met Becky and her husband.(Can't remember his name ) The live down on the corner. The run a business from home. Leather and computers. Becky used to have 21 goats so she was excited to find out that I have goats. Now I have another person I can go to if I have a problem with my goats.
I met Bob, ( Wife was at home with a sick grand kid ) another neighbor that lives down the street. He was kind of quite, asked questions about Alaska. He and his wife are thinking about taking a cruise up there. He doesn't want too but she does.
I was teased that I say soda and not pop and also I call it a snow machine and not a snowmobile.
I told them that they are lucky that I didn't call it a snow go like I got to calling them when I lived in the bush.
I had a back up plan so that if I was uncomfortable I could escape. I ended up being there for 2 hours! Oh I also gave Randy a jar of the sour cherry jam that I just made for his birthday.

Good going Krissy and great advice Kellie! I am so glad you met the neighbors AND had the correct answer to the gun question. I have lived in this house since 1974, I can hardly believe it has been 35 years next month, and have "met" a few neighbors but only got to "know" one of them. Can you guess which one? That's right, your very fabulous womb mate and her family! So I am proud that you went out of your comfort zone and met the neighbors. They sound really nice.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I am envious of your courage to leave your fam and stike out to a new adventure.
Blessings to you always..
We've been here over a year now, and know three neighbors on a first name basis. The rest we have yet to meet. We live in the city, so it's not like we have the distance of the country as an excuse.
ReplyDeleteGlad you you went and had a good time.
If it makes you feel better, I say soda, too, and I grew up there! I don't say snow machine, though. ;)
Thats great. It's always good to know your neighbors and knowing the folks that live around you is not always something that's done these days. I'm glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteawwww Janice....you're sweet. I miss being your neighbor! Hey...just thought of something...the house right across the street is up for sale...won't you be my neighbor!
ReplyDeleteAlicia, you are right, the house across the sreet is for sale, but it's only a tiny 2 bedroom, would your family fit??
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you went too. It's nice to know people - you could have a house warming (on your 1-year anniversary except that's already passed hasn't it?) and invite all your neighbors to come visit you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you went and had a good time. Nothing like a little meet and great to make you uncomfortable, but as Janice says you have lots of courage!
