They ( and who are "they"?) say that Wisconsin is the cheese state, and I tested that by tasting it! My friend Linda from Alaska came down to MN for a class reunion and on Sunday she came over to WI and we went for a drive up north to a town called Alpha that has a cheese/dairy store that she remembered from her childhood, the place is still there, but bigger. The has some imported cheese but I can get that anywhere, I wanted local made cheese, and they had a lot of it! You could spend some big bucks on cheese. I bought a delicious extra sharp ( extra aged!) white cheddar, a blue cheese, a blended farmer/gruyere cheese and a fontina cheese. Everything but the fontina cheese was really good. The fontina is just to bland for me, I don't think that it had anything to do with it being local, just that nature of that type of cheese, its like expecting cream cheese to have a bite, not going to happen, and being that I eat a lot of cheese, I knew this so I don't know why I was expecting more. It will be good to add to mac and cheese for a real creamy base. This is all to say, I was going to have fresh salsa, guacamole and homemade tortilla chips tonight for dinner but I could not find ripe avocados, so tonight I had a cheese plate with prosciutto and then topped off with my homemade pickled beets!
I need to retrace the drive because we passed a local "Mom and Pop" maple syrup type place and I need to get a few quarts of that! I can already taste the waffles with real maple syrup come winter. And I am thinking winter as I had a dew that was able to be scraped this morning on my truck! I refuse to call it frost. it was a solid dew!

Sounds like you are already colder than we are. Falls acoming. And there ain't no getting around it. I want to go to the cheese factory - I bet I would love the Fontina. I like white american cheese.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw a maple syrup sign on HWY 8. Personally I don't care for the real stuff give me Mrs. Butterworth any day. All my cheese was great. Having the asiago on tacos tomorrow.Had grilled cheese the night I got home. Have had cheese & crackers for lunch yesterday and today. Wish I would of bought more of the colby.
