Today at Church I was a hero! Well, maybe not really a hero hero but some kids thought that I pretty close to it! And it was so simple to do. The Church that I go to has a potluck every Sunday after services are over. Now I don't know about you,but some of my favorite cookbooks are from Churches. I think that I need to pass them around to some of the ladies here! I won't say any more about that. The reason I was so popular with the kids today? I brought hot dogs!
I had a hug from one kid, 2 thumbs up from 2 other kids. They think I'm cool! So if they are excited about hot dogs, that's got to tell you a little about how bad the food can get sometimes!
1 girl even told me that I got the "long" hot dogs, so that way,she got more dog then bun! WOW!
I don't know if I told you all about the green beans? For 3 Sundays in a row, there was a big pot of green beans. I like green beans, but I don't like canned green beans and I don't like them with cream of mushroom soup. Nor do I like them reheated for the next 2 weeks with more canned green beans and soup added. It was a green monster that grew and grew! About the only way I like canned green beans is the way my friend Kellie makes them. She adds cheese!
Now the desserts are always good. And there is always a jello mold with a canned fruit added. I like that. I was not really exposed to that other then the fancy jello molds for the holidays. Why Mom? Why didn't you make jello with fruit added? Was it because Dad didn't like it?

Potlucks can be either good or bad. I'm guessing your church potluck is....I won't say out loud! I'm sure you are just staying after church for the social part of your Sunday. I don't mean to rub this in, but my church has awesome food after Sunday service. It's also really cheap. I had a big bowl of creamy tomato soup with onions and peppers today....$1.25! I was satisfied.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you should bring the family Green Bean Salad and show them what they've been missing. Or the Heavenly Ham - that is one of the best potluck foods. You may have to lead by example.
ReplyDeleteDid they have the carrots in lime jello? I still don't understand the popularity of that one.
ReplyDeleteI have some old cookbooks from the church I went to growing up. Lard was heavily featured in many recipes.
RE: the green beans. Cream of mushroom soup makes everything edible! ;)
I got to say I am really glad mother didn't ruin the jello with fruit in it or any other of those wierd things in my food. Sorry but than you know how finicky I get with eating things that don't grow or live here :-)) Went snowmachine riding with my dog today and boy is it fun to have the dog on the machine with you. I hope the mail hurries up and gets her Doggles here soon. I guess I'm going to have to break down and order a camera on line and wait for the mail on that too. I think for my birthday this year I am going to make the family recipe for green beens and just pig out on them. That way I can just go with the stupid chicken cordon blu for thanksgiving. I was out picking the lowbush cranberries this year. Tok has festivals and all kinds of community stuff about "Ligonberries" which is what lowbush is really. I'm going to try making "baineberry" pudding with them instead of the store bought. And Kris thankyou so much for the bread recipe. Made it the day you wrote and the next morning the smell of baking bread and fresh ground coffee ambrosia and it wasn't a brick halllelujah!!!!!
ReplyDeleteK- carrots in lime was last week, That is good! Who would have thought that?!
ReplyDeletePatty- When your here maybe we will do the ham thing?
Jenny- glad to hear that the bread worked out for you. What kind of dog did you get? I made lowbush cranberry jam one time, it was ok, not great. I don't think that it's a very tasty berry.
