Today at work I had a flash back. I was checking in some music CD's and one of them had a compass rose on it as art.
And just like that I was back on the boat hearing my dad ask the following " What's that heading?" my response after about 10 seconds so I could get the sailboat back on the proper heading " 160 degrees just like you told me"
When I was on my watch my mind would sometimes wonder and I would not keep the boat on the proper heading. My dad could always tell as the boat would lean different or ride the waves different. I'm sure my dad had fun plotting our course with all of us kids not paying attention to the proper heading!
That's the Carina on the lower right hand side. I sure do have a lot of nice memories of living on the boat. And some not so nice. ( The shark story! )
THere are things that take me right back to the boat too. Almost any time Tim says he hates the wind, I just think about how nice it was to have a good wind and get the boat going. Butterscotch candies still bring back another, not so good, memory.
ReplyDeleteI think you should write a book about your "boat" travels. Add your humor and it would be a best seller...really.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be fun to hear more about your 'boat life'. I bet it was cool being the navigator, that was great your Dad involved you in those great experiences.
ReplyDeleteIt must be great having experienced being on a boat. I can only dream of it. A colleague of mine's daughter and husband just sold their houseboat. They've been living in it for almost 3 years! They were glad to have more space, but I would have loved to just enjoy one night. I agree with "tainterturtles" about you writing a book. I would read it.
ReplyDeleteHow big was the sailboat Krissy? We had one too while we were in our teens....
ReplyDeleteWonderful feeling when you motor out and then cut the motor, lift the sails....
