Wisconsin gold.

I got a wonderful gift today. A volunteer at the library gave me a pint of her own, hand made, from their trees, maple syrup! Can you believe that? I don't know if I would be that kind. I hear it takes like 40 gal of sap to make 1 gal of syrup. That seems like a lot of work.

Now what to do with it? I feel that pancakes are not worthy of this syrup. My dad likes to put maple syrup on ice cream. I like that also. Don't make a face and think that it's odd. It's like putting chocolate or any other type of topping on ice cream. In fact, I think that that's a good ideal.

My folks have their 5th wheel here. I think that they have a ice cream maker. Homemade ice cream with homemade maple syrup? Can a treat get any better then that?

What would you use it for?

  1. hmmm. that's a tough question. I think I'm voting for swirling it in icecream with broken sugar cones mixed in. That sounds yummy. If you do have it with breakfast food, waffles are better than pancakes.

  2. Oh, Patty's suggestion sounds so wondeful. Now I want some, maybe add nuts, candied nuts.

  5. I make homemade cinn/applesauce pancakes and top with maple syrup. At Christmas time we trade fish with my brother for his homemade maple syrup. His is really dark and thick and yummy! Sometimes I just take a spoonful and eat it.
