When I moved here last year I had some of these on my shrubs. I didn't know what they were so I didn't take them off for a week or so until I found out from my friend that they are a bad thing. I don't remember what they are called but they are not going to turn into a beautiful butterfly like I hoped for.
A few days ago I saw some and today I cut them off. They will go into the burn barrel and get the firey death. Burn worm thing burn! They give me the willies. In a few weeks I will see real big ones and I have to advert my eyes as they really do give me a ugh feeling in the pit of my stomach. When I mean big, I mean I have seen basketball size nest. I stopped the truck one time to check it out. That's when I got the heebee- jeebies.
Those are tent worms and they kill trees. They are an incredible pest. We put gasoline on the nest and torch them. If you have those and don't want to get rid of them yourself you can call the extention agency I think through county services and they will come out and take them down.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the tent worms are gross. We found one near our yard last summer. That's a good thing to know about the County Extension office.
ReplyDeleteWe all know how creeped out Aunt Krissy gets with BUGS!
That gave me the willies and I'm several thousand miles away. I'm probably going to have nightmares about the little creepy crawlies. We still have nothing more than the occassional mosquito or ant. Not bad at all.
ReplyDeleteAre they tent catepillers? Yes they are gross. I heard some years are worse for them than others....
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any yet up here, but we do see them on the Coast...they're disgusting!
