It's a go.

The goat lady came by today. She was real impressed with the fence that my BIL put up and also the pen and milk stand that he made. She said that her goats would be happy here. We talked and she will bring the goats over on Wednesday. We will talk on Tuesday and set up the time for her to come over. She will give me a few days supply of grain and hay till I get my own. All of her goats are on a diet so she said that only one of the goats get grain and that, only 1 time a day. She also only feeds hay once a week. Of course come winter they will get more.

Also while we were out looking at all the goat stuff we saw a snake. It was about 1 and 1/2 foot long (tops) and about as thick as a garden hose. She said it was a pine snake. 1st time I have seen one. I am not scared of them.

Goat lady wanted to see how I made soap so I made a batch while she was here. She smelled all the scents and she really liked the one called Sweet Birch ( My least favorite ) So I said that we would make that one. I needed to sooner or later. I had a problem. It was all going good. Soap went to trace like it was supposed to. I added the 3oz of the Sweet Birch and the soap started to curdle and to seize on me. I got is all scraped out of the pot and into the box mold and the soap was piling up. I had to spread it out. I will just have to keep an eye on it. Maybe during the curing it will re-bind or something. If that doesn't work, then I will grate a small amount up and melt it ( re batch ) and see if I can get it to come together. It was not the most expensive scent so I'm not to bummed out. It had to happen one day.

  1. Yay! What if she hadn't approved? I guess you would have just gotten milk goats somewhere else. Tim will be pleased she approved though. Too bad your first seizing of the soap happened while you were showing someone new! But I agree, it had to happen sooner or later - things just don't always go hunky dory.

  2. I can't wait to see the pics of your goats. I find it interesting how you are not afraid of snakes, but you are deathly afraid of spiders. I loved that post-- it was hilarious!

  3. I'll be fun to see you goats, maybe this weekend sometime?

Maybe the soap will turn out ok anyway.

We used to have really big pine snakes on the farm I grew up on. I know I've seen picture somewhere of my dad with a dead one drapes over his shoulder, each end of the snake reaching the ground.

  4. The goat lady has nice goats. When I ride by her house on my bicycle, all the goats start to talk to me...its so cute.

I will always remember the time that Becca told me one of the little goats from the goat lady's farm, chased Becca when she was on her bicycle...at first she thought it was a dog, but then realized it was only a good (LOL)!
