Not a confession but........

I have a serious fear of spiders. I don't think that I'm a true arachnophobia as I can look at them from a few feet and seeing them in pictures and in spider cages ( fish tanks ) does not cause me to have a fit. But, on the other hand, if they get to close to me I have to move and I have been known to break dance if I think that I might have one on me. In fact one time I killed a spider cause I puked on it. I was cleaning a African Violet plant, I had a bunch of brown leaves in the sink that I was picking up and putting in the trash can and one leaf that I picked up was soft and gushy and had big legs. I dropped it in the sink and promptly vomited on it.

One time I was sitting on a chair at my folks house and I had a tickle between my ......uh....... bosom and I thought that I had dropped some crumbs or something so I just put my hand down my shirt and brushed at it. It tickled me again and I looked and saw a fuzz ball. I picked it up and pulled it out and and saw that it was a spider and I let out a loud eek type noise. My dad got cranky at me but he doesn't get it. It caused me to tear up.....Not my dad getting cranky but cause I had so much adrenalin in my system.

I have had to pull over on a road before as there was a spider on my dash walking towards me and that just was not going to do.

I don't kill spiders if I can help it. I don't hate them. They are just doing their spider thing, but that being said I have been watching this guy. I went and took a shower and now I can't find him. ( I should have sucked him up with the vacuum ) So, where is he? And what is he? He is pretty fast moving and he was eye balling me. When I was taking his picture he would move when I moved ( What song is that? )

  1. If I had those things happen to me, I'd have a serious fear too! I have no clue what that spider is, but we have them here in Ohio. They remind me of gorillas-- muscular, furry, black, and they move fast.

I'm behind in reading my blogs, and I just left a comment on your 10 Honest Things Post. :)

For some reason, I'm having difficulty publishing this comment. So if you end up getting 3 from me. Sorry!

  2. oooh. I get an icky feeling just looking at that picture and knowing that he's lurking somewhere in your bathroom. Must be found and killed before I come down again! I'll probably have heebie jeebie dreams tonight and it's all your fault.

  3. I did some looking around. I think the spider is called a jumping spider. he does not have a web to catch his food. he tracks it down and "jumps" on it. It's a interesting spider. But it does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

  4. Would you like to borrow annabelle? She's guaranteed to eat all the spiders and bugs in your house. First she catches them and plays with them, and then in one flash she scoops them up in her clawless paw and eats them. I never have a bug problems in my house cuz annabelle eats them all!!!!

  5. Krissy, did Lisa ever tell you about the bug in her coffee maker? It was in the part where you can see how much water you poured it. I had to come at lunch and rescue her. I took the bug to the Cooperative Extension Service and they got out their bug book. Turned out to be "the biggest earwig" they had ever seen. But how did it get in and then out of her coffee maker????

  6. man o man! I am so scared of spiders. My eyes tear up just thinking about them and if I see one for real it really freaks me out!

Speaking of eyes tearing up...I actually got a little misty eyed watching an episode of star trek-next generation last week. The one where Data has a daughter. I've been watching more ST the last two weeks than I have in all my life put together! Weird, huh?

  7. Suck that spider up!!

    I saw that same Star
Trek with data's daughter. WE use to watch that show every friday at 10p. Hated it when it went off the air. Re-runs are good tho.

  8. Eek! Spiders! I vacuum up ones that I'm afraid of (I'm a pansy and I realize I'm many times bigger than them, but I've seen what spider bites can do so I'm a pansy).

When we first bought our house, the BIGGEST SPIDERS I'D EVER SEEN were residing in our basement since it had been sitting empty for so long. It was awful. I won't even describe them because you'll have nightmares. :/

Janice - that earwig story now has me eying my coffee maker suspiciously....

  9. I am scared of spiders too. When we lived on the Coast, there were big wolf spiders, uggg, so gross.

But up here, there are only itty bitty ones. People say it is because of the cold, they can't overwinter here....that is fine by me.

My friend told me that sucking them up in the vacuum does no good, they can just walk on out. I didn't know whether to believe him, I think he was just trying to freak me out more :)

  10. I have used the "suck em" trick myself - then I put tape over the end of the tube so they could not get out! I don't know if it works bit I certainly feel better.

Living in Alaska with very few bugs does have it's advantages. :)

  11. I think your right that it is a jumping spider, we have those in our mailbox. I'm always leary whenever I go to get the mail.

  12. Here in Oklahoma I went to brush some leaves off on a ledge. One stood up. It was a tarantula. It was not happy to be brushed up and either was I. I made my husband shot it w/a BB gun to show others of its sort what would happen. I then wanted to sleep in mosquito netting the rest of the summer.

  13. Long before he met me, the Corporate Prince woke one night to a Goliath Bird Eating Tarantula from Brazil, about the size of a dinner plate and quite capable of hunting full grown parrots walking along his closet doors here in Oregon. He says it made a scratching sound as walked, which is what woke him up. His (now ex) wife woke up and screamed when she saw it. So, even though he himself has a bit of spider phobia, he trapped it in a waste basket, where the spider became angry and made the plate he was using as a makeshift lid bounce in his hand as the spider pounded on it trying to get out. So, CP took the trash can, spider and all outside where he dropped it and then splatted the spider with a shovel.

The next day, the neighbor was hanging fliers and going door to door looking for his pet spider that escaped...

I am not afraid of spiders. I get their purpose in life and appreciate what they do for us. But, ICK!
