Shop talk and more.

I made my 2nd batch of soap this morning. I made lavender with lavender flower buds in it. Very pretty. This batch went faster, other then I did have a problem with the palm oil. On the bucket of palm oil it states " Completely melt in pail for each use " Which kind of confused me as the 1st time I used it it was all liquid and this time when I went to pour, I could see that it had become solid. Big problem, I couldn't get the lid off to scoop it out. I could see that there was oil in there though. I tipped it on it's side and slowly I was able to get 1.5lbs out. I then set that pail in the furnace room. That room is a little warmer then the rest of the basement so hopefully it will become liquid over time. ( Or figure out how to get the lid off! )

I then went shopping to get stuff to make my soap making area nicer. I hate shopping. I think I have mentioned that before. WalMart was packed. And they were re-arranging the store so nothing was were it was supposed to be. I persevered and survived. On the way out I saw a sight that will be burned forever in my mind. Now I'm a "big boned gal" ( She's a big boned gal, you just can't call her small. If you can tell me who sings that song, later on I will give you 2 free bars of soap.) and even I know that you don't wear your pajama bottoms out in public with no undies as you will be walking around with a huge wedgie! Why did this woman think that that was OK?

When I can home and opened the front door I was hit with the smell of lavender. I do believe that I could have 10 cats peeing in the house and you would not be able to tell. Don't worry, I'm not going to become that crazy cat lady.

This is my new and improved area. I have a fan, light and a CD player. I cleaned off the shelves and put down paper and will use that to cure the soap. I moved the 1st batch so it's no longer on my kitchen table. ( In the picture it's in the upper left hand corner with a black square around it ) The blanket on the table is wrapped around the lavender soap. It will sit like that for 24 hours.

  1. Sorry about your Wal-Mart experience...I've seen that too and it's not pretty!

I never knew you had to wrap your freshly made soap in a blanket, but I'm sure that makes sense.

Are you going to use real stuff in your soap like the "horse-of-peace" gal?

  4. Wow. Huge improvement. I'm sure the light will come in handy too. Are you going to get a better scale or now that you know how to do it, maybe that won't matter as much. Goats tomorrow? I'm excited for you! I want to be there!

  5. Not a pleasant description.

I love the smell of lavender! You have a nice soap making set up there. Why do have to wrap the soap in a blanket?
