Here is Maggie. She is quite and a little shy. She likes to be petted but if you don't pet her she will move off and go eat some grass. A few times when I looked over at the goat pen I could only see JuJu. I would walk out there and Maggie would come out of the stall that I have made inside the garage. She likes it. Out of the 2 of them I think that JuJu is the herd leader.
I was asked some questions. No, they are not giving milk at this time. I will send one of them back to the goat lady in the fall (October ) and when the "deed" is done I will hope to have a kid in the spring. I only plan on breeding one at at time. From what I hear and from what I read a good Nubian can give up to 10lbs of milk a day. I don't want that much. I plan on separating the baby from the mom at night and milk in the morning to get my 3lbs of milk that I need and then let mom and baby be together during the day. I did try the goat milk that I got from the goat lady and I liked it. I would have no problem drinking it. Maybe later on I would try and use more milk and try cheese making and stuff.
This is JuJu. She is a snuggle bunny. I hung out in the goat pen today for about 15 min as I wanted to get to know them. I know that JuJu likes people. I was sitting in my lawn chair and she would come up and put her head on my tummy and kind of make a little huffing noise. When I would stop petting her she would lift her head and I would blow in her face and she would just sniff real deep. She liked it. I walked around the pen a bit and JuJu would follow me. When I would stop she would lean up against me. ( Maybe she sees me as a big bag of grain? )She is also very vocal. She has a very loud Mmmmaaaaa! And she can do that for a long time.

I love JuJu's coat, she's so pretty. I'd like to see a closer picture of Maggie. I've always loved goats like yours. I'm sure you said in your earlier posts, but what kind of goat are they?
ReplyDeleteOh Krissy, they are so sweet! They seem so child like. I love the way Ju Ju snuggles.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you will not have to deal with 20 pounds of milk a day!
Your goats are adorable. I'm not sexist, but I preferred the female we had to the male. As for the goat milk, a friend of mine was telling me how much better goat milk is for us. When her girls were little, they couldn't have cow milk, so she got goat milk from a local and her girls thrived. You're making a good choice getting into this, as long as you are willing to do the work. Good luck and keep keeping us posted.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your goats are sweet gals. Maybe next week I can come over and say hello.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, the girls are so pretty and sweet. You're very Lucky. Have they and Abby gotten to know each other better yet?
ReplyDeleteSecond, mmmmmmmmm goat cheese. I will buy your soap when it's ready to sell but it's the goat cheese that has me hooked. I'll pay extra to have it shipped to OKC.
I think you're in for a very fun time w/your new family members. Enjoy.
