Meet the girls.

The goat lady came by today just after 1.30pm and brought my my goats. I'm calling them "the girls" The big one, she is 3 years old and her name is Ju Ju Be. ( Wearing the yellow collar )The smaller one is 2 years old and she does not have a name yet. I'm thinking Maggie. Just so you know. They are LOUD! I'm sure that they will settle down here in a few days ( I can only hope! ) They are very curious about Abby. They keep their eye on her all the time. When we were in the pen with them they would come to us and lean on us as they would turn to keep Abby in view. I wont let Abby into the pen. Abby was in the truck when they showed up. Took her about 1/2 hour to figure out that there was something going on and she started barking at them. She (Abby) has calmed down. Goat Smoat is what she is thinking. Or maybe dinner?

  1. Ahhh....Your goats are darling!!! I love their big floppy ears! I think Maggie is a fitting name. She looks like a Maggie. Ju Ju Be sounds like a candy. I'm so happy for you!

  5. Very exciting! I want goats too! And chickens. I like the name Maggie - good choice. And Ju Ju Be is cute too. I'm sure they'll settle down soon - it must be strange to just get into a truck and be hauled off to your new home and nobody told you.

  6. Nice Nubie's, Nice fence. They'll settle in just fine.

Now, they may get a little pushy on the top of that fence. If so, one little strand of hot wire will keep them off of it.

A good Nubie will produce 10 lbs of milk a day. Have fun! My mom has about 40 Nub/Boer cross. Best of both worlds in her book.

  7. Yes, they are loud. These are the same goats that would talk to me when I rode my bike by their house. As soon as they saw me coming down the hill, these same goats would talk so loud. It's nice to know you have two of those goats now.

I might just ride the Aunt Krissy route tomorrow morning so I can visit the girls. How exciting to have an extended family now.

  8. Oooh! I *think* we may have found our goats! Maybe, just maybe! (They're cashmeres- my mom was hoping we'd find hair goats because she spins her own yarn as a hobby in her retirement).

  9. Krissy is now a goat lady! How fun for you. I hope Abby knows that she is not replaced - they stay outside - she still gets to share your bed!

Do both Ju Ju Be and Maggie give milk? Does that mean they have had babies? (don't laugh just remember i am a city girl)

If they both will give 10lbs of milk a day, what on earth will you do with it all? That is 140 pounds of milk a week! How big is your freezer????

    Blessings,

  10. They look so sweet! Definately Maggie is a great name. and JuJu B is cute too. That is going to be a lot of milk. Will you be able to use that much for soap? or maybe that'll really get you to making tons o' soap, which will be good if people buy it up.

  11. Goats are so adorable. I had goats until last year and they were part Nubian too. Yes, then can be loud. Mine were so spoiled to us that they would start calling for us as soon as they heard our house door. But, that was our fault. There are times I still wish I had the mom. Kate was so adorable and sweet. Enjoy your girls.
