Abby

Abby. She is a good dog! But when I go to bed every night I have to do a tick check!
I know, I know! Its my fault that I have to check for ticks. When I got Abby 11 years ago, (she was 6 months old) she was all sad and lonely, she came from a busy house that had 3 other dogs and kids, so coming home with me and just me, it went from stuff going on,to nothing going on. So the very first night I let her in bed, and not just in bed but UNDER THE COVERS (GASP!)We have been sleeping like that ever since. Well, now she is only allowed under the blanket, there is a sheet between us. There are a lot of great things about Alaska, and one of them is NO TICKS. Wisconsin should not be called cheese state, more like tick state! The first week, I had to go to the vets so Abby could get on the anti tick medication and I made the vet pull off all the ticks and there was a ton of them!. OK, maybe 7 of them, but to me that was a lot! I then learned to pull them off, with about 2 papers towels folded, but that's hard to get a good grip on them, and ya need a "firm" grip on them. And don't worry not matter how "firm" that grip is, it wont kill them, pop them or crush them. They are harder to destroy then a cockroach ( I have some great roach story's!)I can now pull off a tick with just a tissue, Abby will try and move away from me if I come at her with the flashlight and tissue, she knows what that's all about!( This might be because she has some moles that look like ticks and I have tired to get them!)
