Book Club.

Tonight the book club that I joined met. There's about 12 people in the book club but only 5 of us showed up. The leader was not able to make it so he had one of the others lead the discussion.
The book that we had read was "Rhett Butlers People" by Donald McCaig. It's the sequel to "Gone With the Wind"
The 1st half of the book, I thought was pretty slow, so did the others in the group. We all agreed that it picked up with the Civil War.

I was surprised that 2 of the people in the group thought that there was some gory parts in the book. Gore? Where? I thought that it was a pretty tame book gore wise. That's when I realized that I read different books then they do! It might have to be age? The women that showed up, I would say that they were 65 and older? Maybe 70+? Not sure.

After we talked about the book for about 1/2 hour. Which it was real fun to talk "book". We tried to decide which book to read next. Guess what? Being that I work at the library they left it up to me and my boss to pick out the next book. I think that they have had her pick books for them in the past.

It's hard to pick a book that you think that everybody will enjoy. I was having a hard time. My boss said that no matter what, not everybody will like the same book. So don't worry so much.
I ended up picking " A Perfect day " by Richard Evans. I have only read one other book by him.
And I'm drawing a blank on what that book was. I do remember it being a tear jerker and I try and avoid the mushy books. If the book clubs hates it, I will blame the boss!

I have to admit, I just right now realized that I had Richard Evans mixed up with Nicolas Evans , who wrote the "Horse Whisperer, The Loop, The Smoke Jumper and The Divide " which I have read all of them and really like.

Spoiler alert

Yes, those crazy kids, Rhett and Scarlett do get back together.

  1. Don't worry about spoiling it for me - I'll never read it. You do read much more "hard core" books then I do and I know you have to shelter mom sometimes from the books you read. Glad you didn't pick out a Stephen King one.

  4. The Perfect Day sounded like a good book to me. If they don't like it, just blame the "boss."
